(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – After taking the internet by storm, the “Chicago Rat Hole” in Roscoe Village is no more.
The infamous imprint of a rodent in the sidewalk in the 1900 block of West Roscoe was visited by many after it went viral on the social media platform X when a local comedian posted about it earlier this year. Tourists flocked to the imprint to snap photos, leave behind gifts, and – for one couple – even get married.
However, all of this attention was not welcomed by everyone in the neighborhood. Residents voiced complaints about large crowds and concern about the danger the large hole posed to those passing by it.
Shortly after the “Rat Hole” rose to fame, there was an attempt to fill it in with what appeared to be a cement or plaster substance.
On Wednesday, The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) removed the sidewalk with the imprint as part of sidewalk repairs in the area.
One worker said a passerby shouted “good riddance” as workers got rid of the hole.
