(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Posen police detective was in the right place at the right time when a baby boy stopped breathing earlier this week.
Detective Cpl. Matt Leveille was riding in a car with the Posen police chief when the 911 call came in.
A 10-month-old boy wasn’t breathing.
Leveille and the police chief were, fortunately, only a block away.
“Yeah, it was definitely lucky. We were definitely in the right place at the right time,” Leveille said. “I pulled up in the intersection. I saw the family waving us down because they saw our lights on. Nathan’s grandma handed me him.
Leveille continued, “As soon as she handed me him, I was able to tell he wasn’t breathing. He wasn’t able to move at all. He was pretty much lifeless at that time. I was able to use infant CPR and bring him back within about 15 – 20 seconds of getting a hold of him.”
Laveille said the baby fell off a bed and lost consciousness.
He regained it but then lost consciousness again and stopped breathing.
The family was about to take the baby to the hospital, themselves, when the detective and the chief arrived.
