Pritzker: 2 Illinois Republicans backing Trump election suit are 'irresponsible'

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker on Friday blasted two Republican members of the state's Congressional delegation for joining an effort by President Trump's allies to invalidate presidential election results in swing states Trump lost.

The two Illinois Republicans are Southern Illinois Congressman Mike Bost and Rep. Darin LaHood of Peoria. Each reportedly signed their names to an amicus brief in support of a Texas-based lawsuit seeking to bolster Trump's efforts to stay in office.

Trump, a Republican, was beat by Democrat Joe Biden in the Nov. 3 race, according to results that have been certified by state governments.

"I'm surprised. I think in the land of Lincoln, I think of republicans and Democrats as being a lot more reasonable than the people who have followed Donald Trump down every rabbit hole," Pritzker, a Democrat, said when asked about the two Illinois congressmen.

"It's irresponsible, it's a ridiculous lawsuit," the governor added. "I don't know why they would sign on except for apparently undying commitment and loyalty to a failed president."

More than 100 House Republicans signed on in support of the amicus brief.

LaHood issued a statement that said, in part, "As a signer of the amicus brief, I am asking the Court to take a look at this case, review the claims presented, and bring finality to the underlying allegations. Since the election, I have repeatedly said that the cornerstone of our democracy is our electoral system and any irregularities alleged should be fully investigated."
