CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- During Wednesday’s State of the State Address, Governor JB Pritzker vowed to fix the long-delayed marijuana licensing process.

The Governor made brief mention of the licensing issues during his budget address.

“The to-do list is long, but it includes key priorities like finally authorizing the overdue second cannabis licensing lottery...,” Pritzker said.

Licenses have been delayed, locking minority participants out of the industry. There have been lawsuits.

The Illinois Senate approved legislation aimed to resolved the issue by doubling the number of new dispensary licenses and creating a second lottery to determine the winners. It was not called for a vote in the House.

There is currently a plan for a second lottery to issue an additional 75 dispensary permits.
