(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Gov. JB Pritzker on Monday disagreed with suggestions he has a rocky relationship with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

The criticism comes amid ongoing issues like the city’s migrant crisis and recent crime wave.

The Chicago Sun Times cited the tension in a recent comment by Pritzker where he said Chicago hadn’t “moved fast enough” to set up migrant base camps.

During a press conference in Peoria on Monday, the governor addressed the comments, blaming the media for blowing things out of proportion.

“Every time there's a governor and a mayor of Chicago, when you occasionally have things you're working out together, they want to turn it into ‘they hate each other’,” Pritzker said.

Pritzker acknowledged there have been mayors and governors in the past who didn’t get along but said he and Mayor Johnson are able to work things out even when they disagree.

“We have a good relationship with one another,” he said. “I feel really good about the relationship and about the future working together.”
