(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Governor JB Pritzker travelled to near the Illinois-Missouri border to stress his administrations commitment to keeping this state a safe haven for abortions, no matter what the U.S. Supreme court does.

Yamelsie Rodriguez, President of Reproductive Health Services for Planned Parenthood for the St. Louis Region joined Governor Pritzker at their clinic in Fairview Heights where—even now—75 percent of the patients are from out of state. She said they are ready if and when Roe v Wade is overturned.

The Governor said clinics like this and their patents have the state’s support, but he’s also calling on Congress to codify the principles of Roe v Wade into law.

At the Planned Parenthood clinic near East St. Louis, State Representative Katie Stuart said she needed to keep reminding herself this is actually 2022.

"The rights that have existed for women for pretty much my entire life-rights that generations before me have fought for, are being eroded across the country."

Governor Pritzker was there to stress that Illinois will not turn back the clock on women’s reproductive health and needs.

"I realize that there are legislators and other people in the state that may oppose abortion rights," he said. "They don't have to have one then. They can make that choice for themselves. We will expand abortion services, reproductive rights."

He told reporters it’s not just abortion rights at stake, but birth control, marriage equality and other things base on the privacy rights established in Roe v Wade.
