The rematch between the two-term Democratic incumbent and former downstate Republican lawmaker got testy at times during their Channell 11 debate.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and challenger Darren Bailey clashed in a range of hot-button issues, from the SAFE-T Act to President Donald Trump to the Chicago Bears.
Governor Pritzker says he believes the NFL team will stay in Illinois, "I believe that in November we are going to be able to get something done to keep the Bears in the state of Illinois, but I'm not going to do it at the expensive of taxpayers."
Darren Bailey in response disagrees, "I'm just glad I'm not going to be known as the governor that lost the Bears. You want to know why he wants to wait until November, because the Bears are going to Indiana."
The hour-long debate took place at WTTW's studios and is the only televised debate scheduled before November.
Independent candidate Collin Corbett was not among the pair on stage, but posted a message about the forum on social media.
