A professional sumo league is bringing one of its first competitions to the Windy City.
The recently-launched Sumo Championship League (SCL) announced the locations and dates of the first three events of its inaugural season.
The league's first event will be held in the Austin, TX area on Oct. 10 before traveling to Chicago for a Nov. 7 event at Credit Union 1 Arena.
"Chicago has amazing sports fans, passionate fans" said Sumo Championship League CEO Stuart Snyder.
The final stop on the tour will be in Ontario, CA in December.
Athletes will compete in authentic sumo, where two wrestlers meet inside the ring, or dohyō, in an attempt to force the other out or off his feet.
"It can look simple, but it is very complicated" Snyder said. "These matches can last anywhere from ten seconds to a real standoff of minutes."
Pre-sale tickets are available through Sunday, Aug. 23. General public ticket sales begin the following day.
