(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An Indiana Senate Committee has voted unanimously to make it a crime to protest at someone’s home.
Under the legislation, these people protesting COVID restrictions outside Governor Eric Holcomb’s residence could go to jail for 60 days and be fined $500 if they were to ignore a warning to disperse.
Senator Scott Baldwin, a Republican from Noblesville, said it would be considered a misdemeanor – “residential harassment.”
He said prosecuting attorneys brought the idea to him to “protect the sanctity of our private residence.”
People could be charged with residential harassment if they’re on the sidewalk or the street.
