CLARENDON HILLS, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board say it's unclear why the driver of a box truck didn't move the vehicle off of railroad tracks, before it was hit Wednesday by a Metra train in Clarendon Hills.

The crash killed 72-year-old Christina Lopez of Downers Grove, who was a passenger on the train and thrown out of a window. Two other passengers on the train, as well as a conductor and an engineer, suffered minor injuries.

The NTSB's vice chairman, Bruce Landsberg, said the driver and two passengers of the box truck got out in time.

He said it's unclear why the truck stayed on the tracks at the Prospect Avenue crossing.

"I think that's probably one of the key questions we have. We don't know if-obviously there's some construction going on, but vehicles seems to be moving back and forth across the tracks," he said.

"We don't know why the truck did not move."

A preliminary report of the investigation could come in a few weeks, but a final may take up to a year and a half to complete.
