CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Students and parents continue to pressure Governor Pritzker to resume in-person learning and sports.
"No more Zoom! No more Zoom!"
Chanting "No more Zoom" students rallied Thursday in Orland Park and Palatine arguing for a return to the classroom and playing field.
Sixth-grader Charlie Jablecki told CBS 2 remote learning has changed his feelings on school.
“You know, it’s like, ‘Oh I don’t like school,’ but this has made me realize that in order to succeed in life, you need to get an education and you need to go to school to learn," he said.
Fourth grader Lanie Jablecki agreed.
“I don’t learn as well just staring at an iPad,” Jablecki said.
Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau joined the call for schools to reopen and sports resume, saying several private schools and some school districts have been able to safely teach in person.
“Our cases are half of what they’ve been in the previous three months,” Pekau said. “In this area, parochial schools are back in, some districts are back in, and they’re making it work – so all the schools need to be doing that.”
Protesters took their concerns in Palatine inside to a District 211 School Board meeting.
According to CBS 2, there are possibly three more rallies scheduled in Chicago this weekend, and another in Naperville on Monday.
