(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — There’s promising news about a baby great horned owl that was rescued from a forest preserve in Geneva, where infections killed its mother and brother.
Laurie Metanchuk of the Forest Preserve District of Kane County said two owlets, one male and one female, were rescued from the Fabyan Forest Preserve after the mother had died.
The owlets were taken to a group called the Kane Area Rehabilitation and Education for Wildlife, for treatment, she said. The male owlet died, unfortunately.
Metanchuk said the surviving female owlet, named Fabyan after the forest preserve, is doing so well that it's hoped that she can be released there soon.
There's also hope that Fabyan will someday have owlets of her own.
