(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- President Biden is being criticized by progressives for his decision to allow construction of more sections of wall along the nation's Southern border.
Congresswoman Delia Ramirez, D-Chicago, said a border wall isn't the answer to reforming immigration. Biden said he had no choice but to use the Trump-era funding for the barrier, even though he doesn't think walls work.
Meanwhile, Ramirez, vice ranking member of the Homeland Security Committee, is praising Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for his planned visit to the Southern border to assess the migrant crisis.
She said cities like Chicago need more help housing asylum seekers arriving by the busload. The migrants who come to U.S. cities want to do more than just be sheltered, she said.
Ramirez says the Biden administration needs to expedite work permits for asylum seekers and secure enough money to address housing insecurities across the country.
