Altercation between aide to Brandon Johnson, reporter has all sides pointing fingers

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Brandon Johnson faced criticism online after a Bloomberg reporter accused a senior aide to the mayor of physically shoving him on Friday.

It all started with a post made by Bloomberg law reporter Ian Kullgren.

"A staffer for @ChicagosMayor just physically shoved me for trying to ask the mayor a question," Kullgren wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "First time in 15 years as a reporter I've had anything like this happen. Unbelievable."

Johnson was in Washington, D.C., for the United States Conference of Mayors.

He responded on social media and acknowledged the physical altercation happened, but the mayor said it was Kullgren who "accosted" a female staffer — not the other way around.

"My administration does not condone physical assaults on staff members of any kind," said Johnson. "What is also not acceptable, under any circumstances, is elbowing a woman half your size in the chest and then falsely claiming that you were the victim."

Kullgren told CBS 2 that he stood by his post.
