An advocacy group for restaurants is asking Mayor Lightfoot to give some workers priority access to COVID-19 vaccines during the current Phase 1B of distribution.
The Chicago Restaurants Coalition's Roger Romanelli said by allowing at least four key workers at each restaurant to get vaccinated, it will ensure the businesses have enough employees to stay open even if other workers contract the virus.
Romanelli on Thursday said the city has already given priority vaccine status to grocery store workers, as well as people working in food manufacturing and distribution.
Restaurants, he said, are just as essential in the food-delivery system.
Phase 1B generally includes anyone 65 and over and people in designated occupations.
Earlier this week, the restaurant coalition urged the Lightfoot Administration to consider offering financial assistance by dipping into tax-increment financing money.
