In a social media post, the park district said Novak’s death meant the Forest Park community “lost a great friend and leader.”
“Dave’s impact was felt within the community, as well as on the softball field, and he will be deeply missed,” the post read.
Novak was superintendent of recreation at the park district for many years before he became its director.
He may be best known for his work on the “No Gloves Nationals,” the annual 16-inch softball invitational tournament in Forest Park.
According to the Forest Park Review, Novak died while vacationing with his family.
