(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — After years of planning, investment, and construction, the Hard Rock Casino is open.

It's located off I-90 at the former Clock Tower Resort site, and can host concerts up 2,000 people, along with 1,300 slot machines, 50 live table games, a sportsbook, and seven restaurants.

Opening ceremonies including a Hard Rock guitar smash, a visit from Gov. JB Pritzker and an inaugural performance by the Nielsen Trust are invitation only and not open to the general public.

A 63-foot replica of Cheap Trick legend Rick Nielsen's checkerboard Hamer guitar adorns the marquee, while inside, guests can explore Cheap Trick memorabilia, themed decor, and shop for Hard Rock Casino Rockford merchandise at The Rock Shop.

Under a host community agreement, Rockford is guaranteed $7 million annually in gaming tax revenue. If the city’s share falls below $7 million, the company would pay to close the gap.

The Governor’s Officer reports that 300 new jobs are anticipated after the construction of a soon-to-be hotel. This is in addition to the 900 new jobs said to have already been created.
