ROSEMONT, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The streets of Rosemont will soon be filled with cosplayers, performers and more for this weekend's Anime Midwest Convention.

Though technically called an "anime convention," Vice President and organizer of anime Midwest Erica Wise, said the it's more of a "fandom convention"

"We cover everything from anime, to video games, to trading card games, to things like doctor who and Supernatural. There's really something for everybody."

Wise said organizers plan for the event throughout the entire year, and even travel to Japan, where anime originated, to prepare.

"We spend a month or more in Japan every year, experiencing the culture, experiencing what we could bring back, meeting with Japanese guests and bringing them to America instead of relying only on American entertainment."

Wise said this inspired featuring a maid cafe at this year's convention, similar to traditional ones in Japan.

There will also be fandom-themed escape rooms, drag shows, and the big Cosplay World Crown competition.
