(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — For the second time, Melissa Buehler’s Rottweiler Otis will be competing on a national stage in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
The American Kennel Club ranked Otis the No. 8 Rottweiler in the country, but to his neighbors in New Lenox, he’s just a big dog.
“The best way to describe him is he is like the character Donkey from Shrek,” Buehler said. “He is very much a nosy, happy, busybody — very, very gentle, very playful.”
The 3 1/2-year-old canine started showing when he was just six months old. How, he’ll be competing in New York against the best of the best.
“There are, I believe, 24 total Rottweilers that are entered, and you know, it is quite an accomplishment for any dog to achieve,” Buehler said.
Due to COVID restrictions, the 145th annual Westminster Dog Show is closed to spectators this year. Buehler plans to watch Otis and his handler on live television Sunday morning.
