WANTED: Schaumburg shooting suspect flees hospital

SCHAUMBURG (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police are searching for a shooting suspect who escaped police custody while being treated at a hospital.

Police said 23-year-old Dion T. Rodgers was arrested in connection to a shooting that happened near East Higgins Road and North Lively Boulevard on Dec. 13.

Officers said after Rodgers was arrested, he asked for medical treatment unrelated to the shooting, and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Staff members at the hospital were asked to tell police when Rodgers was going to be released, but when officers arrived, they were told Rogers was gone.

Police said Rodgers is facing one count of attempted first-degree murder. He was last seen in Chicago near Damen and Division.

Detectives believe Rodgers knew his victim and that the shooting was not random.

However, Schaumburg Police warn residents to confront Rodgers if they see him. Instead, they urge anyone who spots him to call 911.
