WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A 33-year-old Schaumburg woman was killed in a parasailing incident on Memorial Day in the Florida Keys.

The woman, identified as 33-year-old Supraja Alaparthi, was parasailing with her 10-year-old son and 9-year-old nephew near Pigeon Key in Marathon, Florida.

A fisherman, John Callion, said the wind picked up instantly.

“It went from flat calm conditions to blowing 30mph in a matter of seconds. I knew right away the outcome was going to be bad,” wrote Callion on Facebook.

A report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the captain of the parasailing boat cut the line. The parasail was, at that point, in danger of controlling the boat or already was. They call it, “pegging.”

The woman and the kids then dropped from an unknown height and were dragged through the water for more than a mile until they hit a bridge. The fisherman said they hit a concrete section at a high rate of speed. He cut them free.

The woman and one child were unconscious. His passengers performed CPR and the child was revived on the way to a marina. He said the woman was dead on arrival.
