CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There were some scary moments on the ride home Wednesday for two students after their school bus crashed on DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
Chicago police said the bus driver experienced some kind of medical emergency, causing the bus to hit the median of the northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive near Ohio Street Beach.
It was just after 4 p.m., and police said the man was taken to the hospital where he died.
Two boys, ages 12 and 9, were on the bus and taken to the hospital as well for observation. No other vehicles were involved.
The Medical Examiner has identified the driver as 39-year-old Christopher Johnson.
Johnson was an employee of First Student, a Chicago Public Schools vendor.
"We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of a valued member of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) community," CPS said in a statement. "The thoughts and condolences of the entire CPS family are with all those impacted by this tragedy."
