MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A school superintendent in McHenry County said she needs help from local leaders to give police the training they need to protect her schools.

Tiffany Elswick is the superintendent of Alden-Hebron School District 19.

She said it's important for all four of Hebron's police officers to attend security meetings with district leaders, and conduct periodic reviews of safety procedures at schools to make sure the officers are fully-prepared to respond to any emergencies.

"Who are the first officers on duty? Do they have the training and do they have the ability to take care of what needs to be taken care of?," Elswick questioned.

"They would have to be paid for that and currently they are not allowed overtime."

She spoke at this week's village board meeting in Hebron to request approval of the overtime pay, but she hasn't heard whether trustees will do so.
