(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two churches in Maywood have been hit by fire this week, and the fire chief says the causes of both are still under investigation.
First it was the New Life in Christ Bible Church on Monday, and the fire damage was extensive.
Then, in the same neighborhood, there was a fire at the First Congregational Church on Friday that Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh says was concentrated in a dining and recreational area adjacent to the church kitchen.
“As an upside, we did not have parishioners at either location who were injured,” he tells WBBM Newsradio.
Bronaugh says a firefighter received a minor injury at the fire on Monday.
As for the cause of both church fires?
“Both are still under investigation at this time. That’s all I can really say at this point.”
The church that burned on Monday, the New Life in Christ Bible Church, had reportedly just gotten a new roof after a fundraising effort last year.
