The U.S. Secret Service Chicago Field Office talks drones with federal, state and local officials at Soldier Field.
More than 100 officials from several states took part in the Unmanned Aerial Systems briefing, which focused on mitigating and leveraging drone capabilities.
Assistant Special Agent in Charge Joel Heffernan says drones have become significantly more advanced in the two years since they last held the briefing.
"It's amazing and at the same time it's scary, and we need to make sure we're leaning forward on what we're doing to address it."
As summer heats up and Chicagoans move outside, Heffernan adds that drones can be a helpful tool for law enforcement.
"You want to attend an event with your family and you want to feel like you're in a safe environment, but part of that is to ensure we have coverage not only on the ground but above us, as well."
