Security images from Palatine murder released; police still hunting for killer

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Palatine Police Department released security images on Thursday related to the murder of Jun Zhang, which took place in November 2023.

Authorities said it was about 6 p.m. on Nov. 17 when officers responded to a residence on South Plum Grove Road just south of East Illinois Avenue. There was a report of a person down and bleeding.

Police officers found Jun unresponsive with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The 30-year-old was later pronounced dead at the scene.

An only child, Jun emigrated from China to pursue an education and citizenship in the U.S. Palatine officials said he was recently engaged to be married.

The images shared Thursday were found during the initial investigation, officials said. It’s believed that the vehicle in the image is a 2017 – 2020 Nissan Rogue or Nissan Murano.

The police department said it is still actively investigating the killing.
