(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A new comedic play will premiere at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater this spring, with a familiar face leading the cast.

Jason Alexander is making his Chicago stage debut with “Judgment Day,” which is billed as a blend of “A Christmas Carol” and the Faust legend, with a modern twist.

The “Seinfield” star – who played loveable schlub George Costanza on the legendary TV show about “nothing” -- says his latest creative venture is about redemption.

“There’s some really interesting ideas and issues and questions in the play – is it more important who you are, or what you do? I kind of hope that people go away, ‘That was really fun. I don’t know what I would have done. Let’s talk about it over dinner,’” he says.

“Judgment Day," written by Rob Ulin and directed by Moritz von Steulpnagel, runs April 23 to May 26 at the Yard inside the Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier.
