Semi carrying fireworks crashes and burns on Tri-State, closing northbound lanes for hours

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Rush-hour traffic was tied up for hours after a semi carrying fireworks rolled over and caught fire Friday morning on the Tri-State Tollway at St. Charles Road.

The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. and shut down all northbound lanes from Roosevelt Road to North Avenue, according to fire officials.

Two lanes were opened by 7:30 a.m., but significant delays were still being reported an hour later.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries, officials said.
