(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) announced Thursday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

“This morning, I tested positive for COVID-19. Thankfully, I am fully vaccinated and double boosted and only experiencing minor symptoms. Consistent with CDC guidelines, I will quarantine and follow advice from my doctor while I continue to work remotely,” said the 77-year-old longtime senator in a statement.

Durbin, who has served the Senate since 1997, becomes the second major elected official in Illinois to test positive for COVID-19 in the last two weeks. Governor Pritzker revealed on July 19 his positive status but he has since recovered from his mild symptoms and has resumed his normal public schedule.
