Thursday night’s severe weather left behind lots of downed trees on Chicago’s northwest side.

The city was working through more than 700 calls for service for storm damage on Friday morning.

People in Portage Park and Jefferson park described a fast-moving storm with strong winds and the sky looking green or orange.

At Giddings and Lotus, a limb about two-feet wide split off a tree and dented the roof of a white SUV parked on the street.

A Streets and Sanitation crew used a chainsaw and a crane to cut and remove the branch and others from the street before 6am.

A man says he had just gotten home from his son’s baseball game when the weather turned violent shortly before 8pm.

Another massive branch fell on a car near Carmen and Lamon, inches away from a woman’s car as she watched the tree sway in the strong winds.
