BEACH PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two Lake County, Illinois Sheriff's Deputies played the role of cattle rustlers as they corralled a bull that escaped from a property in Beach Park overnight.
Lt. Christopher Covalle of the Lake County Sheriff's Department said the call came in around 5:50 a.m. Friday morning. The bull was spotted around West Adams Road and Stonybrook Drive in Beach Park. The deputies spotted the bull, which was hiding in the bushes.
Covalle said the deputies managed to coax the bull back to its home on Major Avenue.
"It is an area where there are some agricultural animals, and this guy happened to sneak out in the middle of the night until he was wrangled by the deputies who responded," Covalle said.
Lake County has a number of farms, so Covalle said deputies do have some light training on dealing with farm animals or wild animals.
He added most of the time deputies call on the animal's owner to convince it to return home.
"We're usually pretty successful at tracking down the owner, having the owner coax the animal back into their backyard or wherever they are being raised," Covalle said.
He said the bull escaped through a hole in the fence, and that the homeowner was working to make sure it didn't happen again.
