(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Multiple people were hospitalized after individuals inside of two cars began shooting at each other outside of an AutoZone in south suburban Dolton on Wednesday.
Police didn’t share concrete details about how many people were shot — they said there were around six victims — nor did they specify whether anyone was killed in the shooting.
It appeared that the cars crashed into each other about one block away from the AutoZone, but they eventually wound up in the parking lot of the auto parts store.
Witnesses said they were told by police that the shooters jumped out of their cars with assault rifles and opened fire.
One bystander, who was inside of a nearby dry cleaners, told WBBM the gunfire was so loud that she thought a shooter was on top of her building.
At least two dozen evidence markers, which appeared to be placed around gun shells, had been laid out in the parking lot.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
