Senn High School student killed, two others wounded in drive-by shooting: police

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Three Senn High School students were wounded – one fatally – in what police say was a drive-by shooting Wednesday afternoon in the Edgewater neighborhood.

The incident came less than a week after two high school students were ambushed and fatally shot outside Innovations High School in Chicago’s Loop last Friday. Killed were Robert Boston, 16, and Monterio Williams, 17.

Police Supt. Larry Snelling said the three victims Wednesday were walking in the 1200 block of West Thorndale around 3:30 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and several individuals got out and opened fire, hitting the trio. He said the victims were targeted and ranged in age from 15 to 16.

One of the teens died, one was in critical condition, and the third was stable with a leg wound, said Snelling, who said the latest incident did not appear to be connected with last week’s fatal shooting.

Mayor Brandon Johnson appeared with Snelling at a news conference about the shooting and promised the shooters would be brought to justice.

“Whatever conflict or whatever pain you are expressing, this is not the way to do it,” he said. “The loss of life is tearing at the fabric of this city.”

Counseling services will be available to Senn High School students on Thursday.
