Drivers in north suburban Skokie may soon need to slow down.

The village is lowering the speed limit from 30mph to 25mph on residential streets starting March 1st.

Trustees approved the change in June after hearing from Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian that a study found 96% of drivers on local side streets were already driving at or below the new speed limit.

The change applies to residential streets owned by the village.

Those that already have a lower speed limit and those owned by the state or Cook County will not be affected.

Maximilian tells WBBM police will start by educating drivers and move to enforcement targeting areas with a history of speeding problems.
