(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Families at a Skokie elementary school that’s scheduled to close at the end of next school year learned this week that some of them will have to move much sooner.

Seventh and eighth graders at Bessie Rhodes will only be able finish the trimester. In an email to parents, Evanston Skokie District 65 Superintendent Angel Turner said students in those grades will leave on Nov. 15 and start at their neighborhood middle schools on Monday, Nov. 18.

The Board of Education plans to close Bessie Rhodes in 2026 when the new Foster School is slated to open.

The district says it will tell parents in a Zoom meeting on Thursday how they’ll help students make the transition.
