Slow down of car production gives buyers advantage

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Supply chain wrinkles and the chip manufacturing shortage have slowed down production of new cars coming out of the pandemic shutdowns.

Car companies are now building inventory, and that means potential car buyers have a little more negotiating power.

"Things are softening.  As inventory grows it's becoming less of a seller's game," said Matt Jones, spokesman for True Car on the WBBM Noon Business Hour.

When new cars were scarce, dealers could set their own price. Jones said things are changing.

"We are starting to see incentives. People are starting to negotiate, but it depends on what a person is buying."

He said the best time to buy a car is the end the month or the end of the quarter, when sales people have to make their quotas.
