CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Small businesses and non-profit groups can now apply for grants from Chicago's Climate Infrastructure Fund for projects that will help the city meet its goal of reducing greenhouse emissions.
Projects may be energy efficiency upgrades, adding renewable energy systems to buildings, buying electric vehicles or installing charging stations or diverting stormwater from the city sewer system.
Grants will range from $50-250,000 and will be awarded based on how much they'll help the climate and how long they'll take to get off the ground and how much they'll help underserved communities.
"These new funding opportunities for climate infrastructure and transit-oriented development projects offer more options and resources for stakeholders to directly support citywide goals at a neighborhood level, especially through investments that have a global impact,” Department of Planning and Development Commissioner Maurice Cox said in a statement.
Applications are due by February 24.
