(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Despite the snow, hundreds of spectators converged in Uptown Saturday to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.
The Lunar New Year is often associated with fresh starts, and new beginnings. That appeals to Uptown resident Jeramie Soto, whose family attends the parade each year.
“I look forward to a new start,” he says. “I’m learning from them.”
The celebration has long been known the Chinese New Year, but that is changing because it’s not just China that marks the occasion.
“I really love that it’s become more common to call it Lunar New Year,” Mia Park says. “There are something like 12 more countries that celebrate this holiday.”
The event in uptown featured over 20 local community groups, dancers, performers and more.
