CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago area will remain under a winter weather advisory until at least 2 p.m., the National Weather Service (NWS) said Sunday, after northern Illinois residents saw 1 – 3 inches of snow fall overnight.
As many were expected to hit the highways on Sunday to close out the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, NWS officials said travelers should expect slick conditions due to slushy and partially snow-covered roads, especially on bridges and untreated roads.
By Sunday night, as temperatures fall, AccuWeather meteorologist Dean Devore told WBBM that drivers may start to see icy conditions. The NWS said longer-than-normal travel times should be expected.
The peak of the snowfall was expected to hit between 5 – 10 a.m. Sunday morning, but Devore said he expects to see flakes falling through Sunday evening.
As for who saw the most snow, the NWS was reporting 2 – 3 inches of snow in parts of LaSalle County and much of western Illinois. Most of Chicago saw 1 – 2 inches, with the west and northwest suburbs seeing the most.
