
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Today is shaping up to be a significant snow event for the entire Chicago area, with at least 3 inches of accumulation by Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of the Chicago area, including Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, McHenry, Kendall, Grundy and Kankakee Counties. It is in effect until 3 a.m. Thursday.
Throughout the area, steady snow showers began during the noon hour.
A widespread band of snow moved in around 4 p.m.. For the next several hours, the snow will fall at a pretty good clip. It is expected to wind down by the early evening hours, the NWS says.
Ultimately, when it is all said and done, the NWS projects 3 to 6 inches of snow for much of the region, with a chance of heavier amounts near the Wisconsin border due to possible lake enhancement.
The NWS warns of slippery road conditions and poor visibility.
Looking ahead, the next four days will have its own weather challenges. Thursday, we’ll have to combat blustery and downright frigid conditions. AccuWeather says RealFeal temperatures will be near zero.
Friday, it will remain quite cold, with temperatures stuck in the mid 20s.
As for the weekend, AccuWeather says Saturday will see some wet snow, while arctic air returns Sunday. The high temperature is forecasted to be only 13 degrees.
