
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- WBBM has confirmed that one of the American soldiers killed in a helicopter crash this week while on a peacekeeping mission in Egypt was from Illinois.
The U.S. Army said Sgt. Jeremy Cain Sherman, 23, from Watseka was among those killed.
Watseka is about 91 miles straight south of Chicago near the Illinois-Indiana border.
Sherman and the other soldiers died as a result of a UH-60 helicopter crash on Thursday in Sinai, Egypt.
The soldiers killed with Sherman were Capt. Seth Vernon Vandekamp, 31, from Katy, Texas; Chief Warrant Officer 3 Dallas Gearld Garza, 34, from Fayetteville, North Carolina; Chief Warrant Officer 2 Marwan Sameh Ghabour, 27, from Marlborough, Massachusetts; and Staff Sgt. Kyle Robert McKee, 35, from Painesville, Ohio.
The incident is under investigation.
