(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago's Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side was getting ready for this weekend’s Mexican Independence Day Parade, while other parts of the city were getting ready for possible car caravans.

On Friday, street vendors already lined 26th Street, selling just about everything you can imagine that celebrates Mexican heritage, including dresses, sombreros and soccer jerseys.

Jesus Reymundo said the parade can be a jackpot.

Around 400,000 people were expected to watch the parade on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ald. Brendan Reilly of the 42nd Ward says so far Chicago police do not plan to implement street closures unless caravans are headed to the downtown neighborhoods.

In years past, caravans related to Independence Day celebration have led to traffic tie-ups.
