CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Committee has announced this year's parade queen.

She’s Beverly native Mary Kate Barron. Barron was one of 14 candidates, who took part in the selection process.

“Mary Kate is very dedicated to the South Side Irish community and holds the Parade in a special place in her heart," Mary Kay Gavin-Marmo, director of the Queen contest said in a statement.

Barron is an alumna of Ted Lenart Regional Gifted Center and Saint Ignatius College Prep. She earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration, Accounting, and French at John Carroll University.

Barron is currently a CPA tax accountant with Deloitte and is very proud of her Irish background.

"My Irish heritage has shaped me to be the woman I am today and am honored to represent the South Side St. Patrick’s Day Parade as the 2024 Queen,” she said.

“I look forward to the opportunity to give back and represent my family, the Irish community and the South Side of Chicago."

The 46th South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at noon on Sunday, March 17.
