CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Garfield Ridge residents complain prostitution in their southwest side neighborhood is getting worse.

Along Cicero Avenue-not far from Midway Airport one resident says sex workers are busy. She told CBS 2 that she and neighbors have been cleaning up syringes and condoms from alleys behind their homes.

"We don't want this to be normalized in our community," she said.

Alderman Mike Rodridguez said he’s been trying to tackle the problem from multiple angles with city resources including the Department of Family and Support Services, Chicago Police Department as well as the Cook County Sheriff's office,

"Look, this is going to be a long-term issue," he added.

The resident said the city should also offer resources to the sex workers to help them stop being exploited.
