(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The makers of SpaghettiOs® are offering a variation of the canned staple that is marketed toward grown-ups who want a punchier meal.

Campbell Soup Company this week took the wraps off “Spicy Original,” which blends the circular pasta of your childhood with Frank’s RedHot® sauce.
It’s described as “mild-medium” on the heat scale.

“SpaghettiOs and Frank’s RedHot each have an undeniable fandom,” Mieka Burns, Campbell’s vice president of meals & sauces, said in a news release. “Through this collaboration, we’re excited to put a hot, more mature twist on a classic offering that our adult consumers grew up enjoying.”

The idea is meant to appeal to Millennials who comprise more than one-third of SpaghettiOs’ annual sales, manufacturers say. Thirty-five percent of young adults who eat the dish say they already add spice to satisfy their more “grown up” palates, a recent survey indicated.

The new Spicy Original variety is expected to be available at stores nationwide for $1.59 a can.
