WEST DUNDEE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Spring Hill Mall will be closing late next month in West Dundee.

Spring Hill Mall opened in West Dundee more than 40 years ago and as first reported in the Daily Herald, it will be closing on March 22. Only the Kohl’s on the Carpentersville side and the Cinemark movie theater will remain open.

The mall’s owners sent out a letter to tenants Thursday. The Village of West Dundee is purchasing the property for more than $9 million.

"The village had sought to coordinate the closure announcement with the current owners, but as is their right, the current owners elected to contact their tenants directly this morning," said Village President Chris Nelson said in a statement.

Right now, there are no concrete plans for the mall's future. Nelson told the Daily Herald that redevelopment of the property could take five to ten years with demolition of current buildings taking place in the next year and a half.

He also stated that: "wholesale redevelopment is the primary goal."

There has been previous talk about some kind of mixed-use development combining residential with retail and entertainment.
