ST. CHARLES, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A park in St. Charles offers people a unique and colorful way to mourn the loss of their pets.

It's a dog-shaped sculpture in Delnor Woods Park called "Timeless Tags," that is covered with steel loops that allow people to attach tags or other mementos of their pets.

Erika Young is with the St. Charles Park District.

"Even though it's the shape of a dog, we chose to make it a sculpture to encourage people with the loss of any pet to be out there," she said.

"That's why we chose the park that we did. We did consider putting this near a dog park, but we really wanted this 'dog' to represent how meaningful pets are in people's lives," said Young.

She said any pet owner can add tags or other mementos to the monument for free.
