DES PLAINES (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A more than 60-year Catholic grade school in the northwest suburbs will be closing its doors at the end of the school year.
The Archdiocese of Chicago’s Office of Catholic School confirmed the announced closure of St. Zachary School in Des Plaines, 567 W. Algonquin Road.
St. Zachary has been in operation since 1963.
The Archdiocese said that school and parish leadership made the difficult decision.
“This is heartbreaking news for this community and recognize that it only came after thoughtful exploration of multiple options to keep the school sustainable. We hope that the families and dedicated employees of St. Zachary can find a new home within the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools,” the Archdiocese said in a statement.
