(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Illinois Department of Public Health is distributing an additional 1 million rapid COVID-19 test kits to residents of some low income communities.
People who live in eligible zip codes outside the city of Chicago can request five free test kits from the state that will be sent directly to homes, agency spokesperson Mike Claffey said.
Claffey says the state is distributing the tests as part of its ongoing efforts to limit the spread of COVID and the number of people who need to be hospitalized because of it.
The state is working with the Rockefeller Foundation to distribute the test kits.
More information about the test kits can be found here.
