CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Though Saturday's coronavirus caseload in Illinois is significantly lower than Friday's record number, its COVID-19 testing hit an all-time high with 114,370 tests performed, according to state health officials. Illinois now has performed 8,986,010 tests since the pandemic's start.
In addition to the testing record, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 11,028 new cases of COVID-19 for Saturday, including 166 additional deaths.
Since there was a delay in death data reporting on Friday, 66 deaths that occurred then are being included with Saturday’s total. IDPH director Dr. Ngozi Ezike mentioned the reporting delay during Friday’s coronavirus briefing.
Illinois has a total of 562,985 cases, including 10,670 deaths. As of Friday night, 5,415 people were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 1,018 patients were in the intensive care unit and 499 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Nov. 7 – Nov. 13 is 12.6%, the IDPH reported.
